THE WORD OF GOD, by WILLIAM ARTHUR DUNKERLEY First Line: Thy word is light - thy saving grace Last Line: We thank thee, thank thee, thank thee, lord! Alternate Author Name(s): Oxenham, John Subject(s): Religion; Theology | ||||||||
Thy Word is Light -- Thy Saving Grace Upon a troubled world outpoured; For its fair guidance in our night, With grateful hearts, we thank Thee, Lord. Thy Word is Truth -- the Truth that burns, And breaks, and binds, and sets men free. Now let Thy Truth sweep through the world And bring its wayward heart to Thee. Thy Word is Life -- abounding Life, That quickens body, mind, and soul, And gives new meaning to our lives, And sets Thy seal upon the whole. Thy word is Promise of the Dawn That shall bring in Thy Glorious Day, When all creation shall rejoice To do Thy Will and own Thy sway. Thy Word is Love -- the Love that was, And is, and evermore shall be; Love, the Beginning; Love, the End; Love, timeless as eternity. For that great Love, unbounded, free, That binds us with a golden cord To one another and to Thee, We thank Thee, thank Thee, thank Thee, Lord! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY A NEW EARTH by WILLIAM ARTHUR DUNKERLEY |
