LINES WRITTEN FOR A WIFE, by ELAINE V. EMANS First Line: Within a little while he may forget Last Line: So I will trust, and wait him through my sorrow. Subject(s): Trust | ||||||||
Within a little while he may forget Her wholly -- I will wait, and trust, and pray. If only he would not dream so, and yet I know a man his age must love the gay Aprilian freshness of her hair and eyes, And feel years younger, when they laugh together ... I do not blame him much (nor is it wise To blame her greatly, ignorant as to whether She knew he had a wife and children here). Within a little while, perhaps tomorrow, He may turn toward me, whispering "O my dear," -- So I will trust, and wait him through my sorrow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EIGHT FOR ORNETTE'S MUSIC by KENNETH REXROTH THIRD BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 27.
