MEMORIES, by WILLIAM FELTER First Line: I saw you last night Last Line: And silence... And a heart's hot tears! | ||||||||
I saw you last night ... And the same old pain Crowded up in my throat again -- The same old longing I used to know. No matter the years may come and may go, I still can see how very bright You looked upon another night; And O, the desolate, empty years The silence knows and my heart's tears! I saw you last night, Smiling and gay... Time, my dear, hasn't changed the way You look out smiling and unafraid... Is the ache still there I unwittingly made? You climbed alone to a place in the sun And I am glad, so glad you won, Though nothing will ever still the ache Or throb of joy your smile can make. I saw you last night... And you went your way. It doesn't matter the things I say Or that I babble and won't forget -- I saw you again, and was glad we met! No, you have not forgotten the song I sang to you in days long gone, For you, too, know of desolate years And silence... and a heart's hot tears! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ZUNI DAYBREAK by WILLIAM FELTER THE UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE by JAMES GALVIN ARMS AND THE BOY by WILFRED OWEN AT BETHLEHEM: 3.
