Posterity for him is unsought naught. He dies -- a victim of war's boiling pot. The force that beggars love, enthroning hate, To dust consigns him with its glamour-bait, His forfeiture the heritage of life. Dead witness of greed's passion-driven strife, Love is dust -- the dying soldier's cry -- Within him dead his unborn children lie. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW MUCH EARTH by PHILIP LEVINE THE SHEEP IN THE RUINS by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH THE CONQUERORS by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY THE MARMOZET by HILAIRE BELLOC MEN, WOMEN, AND EARTH by ROBERT BLY BROTHERS: 3.
