GALLANT AGE, by N. M. FRIES First Line: Oh, gallant age, with head held high Last Line: To keep young feet from going astray. Subject(s): Old Age; Weariness; Fatigue | ||||||||
Oh, gallant age, with head held high, And eyes still lifted to the sky, With shoulders straight and back unbent, The years have only wisdom lent! And time has with caressing touch Both mellowed you, and taught you much, The thing to do, the word to say, To live gently from day to day. To spread behind you, as you go, While passing through this world of woe, A gracious word, a kindly smile To shorten many a weary mile. For people trembling on the brink Do often from life's mysteries shrink. It's nice to know you've faced the hoard, And have already life explored! And so, great scores of years are sent To leave behind them more content, For beacon lights along the way, To keep young feet from going astray. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VALUE IN MOUNTAINS: 10 by KENNETH REXROTH IMPERIAL NOSTALGIAS: 4 by CESAR VALLEJO BLACK SHEEP by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON TIRED TIM by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE WEARINESS by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW NEURASTENIA by AGNES MARY F.
