THE GIFT OF LOVE, by
First Line: Had I the power to choose one priceless gift
Last Line: Forevermore, for love can never die!
Subject(s): Love

Had I the power to choose one priceless gift
From gifts of all the countless ages past,
I should not need to ponder deep and long
As many would, for I should choose but Love!
If Love were mine, I'd ask no other thing
Of life. Let others struggle as they would
For wealth and power. These bring but fleeting joys
As evanescent as the changing clouds!
If Love were mine, God would be good to me
Though I might spend my days in lowliness --
My home a humble bow'r, my world confined
Within the narrow walls of circumstance!
If Love were mine, I'd own a precious gift,
Eternal, changeless as the Heavens above --
A treasure that would bring transcendent joy
Forevermore, for Love can never die!
