ROUNDUP, by J. O. GARRETT First Line: The stars stop Last Line: That the big-hatted gods of the mesa live again. | ||||||||
The stars stop. The game cock calls out the last watch And the ranch house answers back the hour With four lighted windows. Morning looks across thorn-covered arroyos. Fleeing shadows hide in the valleys. Wild cows and their wilder calves Sniff the air and listen... Because the corrals have spoken And iron-footed steeds tell the stones That the big-hatted gods of the mesa live again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN QUEST by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE BLACK MONKEY by KATHERINE MANSFIELD THE CHURCH WINDOWS by GEORGE HERBERT |
