WELCOME, STURDY TEMPEST!, by RUBY ARCHER GRAY First Line: Cloud-rack and smoke-wreath, sound of rushing rain! Last Line: You that shut us from the world to meet beloved eyes. Subject(s): Love | |||
Cloud-rack and smoke-wreath, sound of rushing rain! Pennons at their lonely height tug their leash in vain. Trees along the hill-crest wage the wind a war Forces elemental near us and afar! Silver shuttles falling, down a silver sky, Cleave the air with warninglet no pinions fly! Close to eave and shelter crowd the little wings; Into nest and burrow, all the woodland things. Short the day to darkness, and the human kind Through the storm of waters hearth and haven find, With a sense of comfort nestling into love Even as the homing wings of the rain-wet dove. Welcome, sturdy tempest! Welcome, cloudy skies! You that shut us from the world to meet beloved eyes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
