LEAVE THE LAKE TO THE WILLOWS, by GLADYS ELOISE HAMILTON First Line: Leave the lake to the gulls, and the lapping, lapping Last Line: Leave the lake to the willows. Alternate Author Name(s): Hamilton, Eloise | |||
Leave the lake to the gulls, and the lapping, lapping Of water under the willows. The gulls are soaring Free in the mist, and the moss-grown stones at the mooring Lie waiting and silent. Leave the lake to the gulls, and the mother of waters. With fingers of fog she is drawing the lake to her keeping; Leaf-pointed tears stir the sedge where the willows are weeping... Leave them to their sorrow. Leave the lake to the gulls, lest its endless rocking Cradle your restless heart; lest the sea-gull's screaming Waken a pain long dead; return to your dreaming... Leave the lake to the willows. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WEAVER by GLADYS ELOISE HAMILTON TO SIR HENRY GOODYERE by BEN JONSON TERNISSA, FR HELLENICS by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR 23RD STREET RUNS INTO HEAVEN by KENNETH PATCHEN TO THE MAN-OF-WAR-BIRD by WALT WHITMAN WHO KNOWS WHERE BEAUTY LIES? by AGNES STEWART BECK SILVER ANNIVERSARY by BEULAH ALLYNE BELL ECHOES OF SPRING: 3 by MATHILDE BLIND TO MISS ANNA MARIA TRAVERS.
