LILAC, by NINA HEMBLING First Line: The fragrance of the lilac covers me Last Line: Incense from a sacred tomb! Subject(s): Flowers; Lilacs | ||||||||
The fragrance of the lilac covers me As perfumed vapor from a hallowed sea, Breathing your presence in every vein With the warmth and freshness of summer rain. Subdued by years, with misty eyes I seek alone our paradise. The blossoms answer for your face; My longing, aching arms embrace Consoling clusters -- hoping still For your returning that would fill My vacant heart, whose glowing fire Wastes in a hollow of sad desire. Oh, the scent of lilac bloom -- Incense from a sacred tomb! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LILACS FOR GINSBERG by GERALD STERN LAST LOOKS AT THE LILACS by WALLACE STEVENS LILAC: FIRST EMOTIONS OF LOVE by ROBERT BURNS PRESIDENT LINCOLN'S BURIAL HYMN by WALT WHITMAN DESIGN OF WHITE LILACS by GRACE HAZARD CONKLING WITH LILACS by CHARLES HENRY CRANDALL OLD HOME by MABEL GOULD DEMERS |
