BEAUTY NEAR AT HAND, by                    
First Line: Thank god for gift to realize the wealth
Last Line: Thank god for so much beauty near at hand!

Thank God for gift to realize the wealth
Of beauty near at hand, the charming views
And bits of loveliness at every turn;
To feel the thrill of changing sunset hues
And harmony of sombre blues and grays
At dusk; discern where fairy fingers wrought
In lavender to veil denuded beech
And hung the purple canopy they brought
To mark a distant lake or stream; to catch
The message of the trees in bold design
Against a winter sky; to understand
The transformations planned in every line
From tiny seed to flower and fruit, from egg
To lacy wings and gaily painted things.
Thank God for so much beauty near at hand!
