THE OLD WAILING WALL, by CLARA S. HOFF First Line: The old, old wailing wall, where never cease Last Line: Still clings about the race that seeks relief. Subject(s): Wailing Wall, Jerusalem | ||||||||
The old, old Wailing Wall, where never cease The millions come and kiss the sacred stones While praying for their promised king of peace -- From many lands are heard the helpless moans Of Israel, like sheep outside the fold. With aching hearts, to that old wall they bring Their centuries of grief; in faith they hold Redemption through the coming of their king. O silent wall, if you could speak to tell Of pain, and age-old conflict you have heard, Of strife, and black destruction that befell Jerusalem, yet left you safe, unstirred! ... Millenniums have come and gone, but grief Still clings about the race that seeks relief. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAILING WALL by GUSTAV DAVIDSON REMEMBERING / WHEN JERUSALEM WAS HOME by WILLIAM C.
