SUNSET, by CLAUDE HOUGHTON Poet's Biography First Line: I have wandered towards the sunset in the silence of Last Line: To the storm-swept reefs of danger in the dream-dissolving dawn. Subject(s): Dreams; Memory; Nightmares | ||||||||
I HAVE wandered towards the sunset in the silence of the evening, At my feet the quivering beauty of an opalescent sea, Comes the magic hush of sunset and the mystic hour of evening, As the ships drift back to harbour, so my thoughts return to me. They will linger in the harbour through the star-kissed hours of darkness, They will sleep amid the silence till the veils are slowly drawn, They will wake and vanish swiftly from the poppied port of darkness To the storm-swept reefs of danger in the dream-dissolving dawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHANT D'AUTOMNE by CLAUDE HOUGHTON |
