MOUNTAINS, by NORA E. HUFFMAN First Line: Somber ... Mysterious ... I love them Last Line: And is heard through the heart alone. Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | |||
Somber . . . Mysterious . . . I love them, Who have never longed for the sea -- The symbol of eternal silence, Yet they speak through my heart to me. The sea has its moods . . . as a woman Tosses gems in her foam-white hands, Its wrath -- that of ten thousand demons, Its calm -- Time asleep on the sands. God gave His commands on a mountain, The echo of His mighty tone -- Still lives . . . in their eternal silence, And is heard through the heart alone. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH LAST PARADE by NORA E.
