THE HAUNTED HOUSE, by RUBIN KANE First Line: Twas many years ago, but still Last Line: The mighty lord -- his name is dear. Subject(s): Haunted Houses | ||||||||
'Twas many years ago, but still I can remember, on the hill, An aged cottage, weather-worn; 'Twas standing there ere I was born; The house of mystery, folks said, Is haunted by the silent dead. A man and woman, plainly seen, Each night by townfolks, dressed in green, Hand in hand, like fleeting shadows, Race across the starlit meadows -- Ghosts of yesterday, those two, The shack have made their rendezvous. Perhaps those souls have left behind Sweet memories they only find When mortals pray, then go to sleep While ghosts of night in silence creep To haunt the ones who do not fear The mighty Lord -- His name is dear. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HAUNTED HOUSE by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON SOUTHERN MANSION by ARNA BONTEMPS THE HAUNTED PALACE by EDGAR ALLAN POE A HEART-HAUNTED HOME by JANE BARLOW THE HAUNTED HOUSE by ABBIE FARWELL BROWN THE HAUNTED HOUSE by MADISON JULIUS CAWEIN HAUNTED VILLAGE by SARAH NORCLIFFE CLEGHORN HAUNTED by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY TO OUR MOCKING-BIRD; DIED OF A CAT, MAY, 1878 by SIDNEY LANIER |
