OH, heart of hearts, how heartily thou beatest; Each tender beat beats all the rest. Thou greetest Me each morn with ever-constant thumping -- 'Tis thou, dear heart of hearts, that keeps me humping. Oh, brow of brows! By thy cold sweat I'm browsing; Each wipe I give thee gives the children housing; The sturdy arm each day sets thee to sweating -- Both thee and heart get all the gets I'm getting. Oh, will of wills! Oh, wilt thou not or will'st Thou push me on? With grand endeavor fill'st Thou my soul, the while ambitions blasting Shake out the deeds that shall be everlasting. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CARDIOLOGICAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS NOCTURNE OF REMEMBERED SPRING by CONRAD AIKEN COZY APOLOGIA; FOR FRED by RITA DOVE THE PESSIMIST by BENJAMIN FRANKLIN KING |
