HOUSE VERSUS HOME, by LAURA LEE First Line: A house and a home are different, you see Last Line: For you are just as welcome as the flowers in may. Subject(s): Home; Houses | ||||||||
A house and a home are different, you see, And on this subject I'm sure we'll agree, When I reason with you as it was reasoned with me. A house is built of lumber and brick, And it doesn't take long to complete the trick; But a home is built of sorrows and joys, And the happy faces of girls and boys, And a mother and father who willingly share All the ups and downs -- and all of the care For these girls and boys. When you enter the door of the house you will see Everything in its place as nice as can be, But entering the door of the home you will find On the floor toys and books that were left behind, -- Now, this is a home, but don't go away, For you are just as welcome as the flowers in May. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TWO-RIVER LEDGER by KHALED MATTAWA SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 3 by CONRAD AIKEN FOR THE REBUILDING OF A HOUSE by WENDELL BERRY JERONIMO'S HOUSE by ELIZABETH BISHOP MENDING THE ADOBE by HAYDEN CARRUTH MY HUT; AFTER TRAN QUANG KHAI by HAYDEN CARRUTH FISH-LEAP FALL by ROBERT FROST BALLADE MADE FOR HIS MOTHER THAT SHE MIGHTE PRAYE by FRANCOIS VILLON |
