LITTLE BLUE EGG, by ISABEL ECCLESTONE MACKAY Poet's Biography First Line: One day we found a little nest Last Line: I can't see why, can you? Subject(s): Birds' Nests; Eggs | ||||||||
ONE day we found a little nest With one blue egg, so small We had to lift it out to see If 'twas an egg at all Or just a bit of bluest sky Dropped in there by mistake We didn't hold it tight, of course, For tightness makes eggs break. And all the time, the mother bird Made such a dreadful fuss 'Twas just as if she couldn't trust Her nice blue egg with us! And though we put it back at once And Ann said, "Sorry", too, That bird kept right on scolding us I can't see why, can you? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE EGG BOILER by GWENDOLYN BROOKS THE WRECKAGE ON THE WALL OF EGGS by THYLIAS MOSS BOY AND EGG by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE BEYTZEH: SEASON OF THE EGG by MARGE PIERCY THE IDAHO EGG WOMAN by KAREN SWENSON A CHRISTMAS CHILD by ISABEL ECCLESTONE MACKAY |
