ON EASTER MORNING, by CHARLES HENRY MACKINTOSH Poet's Biography First Line: The door between the worlds is open wide Last Line: So long as love lives in the hearts of men! Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; The Resurrection | |||
The door between the worlds is open wide On Easter morning; some time in the night A Star has touched it with a ray of light And, at that touch, the stone is rolled aside. Between the worlds, angelic heralds glide Out of the darkness, dressed in robes of white Too dazzling to be seen by mortal sight Except among the dawn of Eastertide. But when the Easter dawn is in the sky, All who have eyes to see may see them then; All who have ears to hear may hear their cry: Awake, and greet the risen Christ again, And know the Lord of Love can never die So long as Love lives in the hearts of men! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS SPANISH EASTER: 1926 by CONRAD AIKEN BLOOD by CHARLES HENRY MACKINTOSH |
