WINTER'S MOON, by FLORENCE MCCURDY First Line: Sometimes, within its frame of dusky sky Last Line: Where winter's moon swings low, its beckoning light. Subject(s): Moon | ||||||||
Sometimes, within its frame of dusky sky, The winter's moon hangs low and swings its light To gleam in cold, pale beauty, on the high Stark limbs of elm trees, reaching in the night Toward the unattained, the lovely thing -- That fair, bewitching element of grace From all the world remote, fore'er on wing, A cryptic smile upon the beauteous face. And so, through all of life, I lift my eyes To beauty's light wherever it may shine, -- Elusive as the blue of April skies, Yet ever present, everywhere divine: A ceaseless striving to surmount the height Where winter's moon swings low, its beckoning light. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN THE MOON AND THE SPECTATOR by LEONIE ADAMS FULL MOON by KARLE WILSON BAKER NO MORE OF THE MOON by MORRIS GILBERT BISHOP THE DEPARTURE by DENISE LEVERTOV THE MOON IN GREECE by TIMOTHY LIU COMPENSATION by FLORENCE MCCURDY |
