THE FLAMING CROSS, by GERTRUDE M. MCGRATH First Line: Northward, high and lifted up Last Line: Calls a warring world to brotherhood. Subject(s): Cross, The | ||||||||
Northward, high and lifted up, Where all the busy world might see, A fleecy cross hung in the sky, Snow white in purity. And as we watched -- awe-inspired -- This cross with living flame was fired, -- A crimson shaft from the setting sun Changed the cross to a flaming one. Northward, high and lifted up To show that God is ever nigh, This flaming cross hung as a sign There in the azure sky, -- A covenant lest we forget God in Heaven is with us yet. This flaming cross, if man but would, Calls a warring world to brotherhood. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE SIGN OF THE CROSS by JOHN HENRY NEWMAN CRUCIFIXION TO THE WORLD BY THE CROSS OF CHRIST by ISAAC WATTS ON BEARING THE CROSS by JOHN BYROM THE CRUCIFIX by ADELBERT VON CHAMISSO EASTER by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY HEAL MY HANDS! by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY GOD'S CROSS by MARTIN E.
