HILLS OF LIGHT, by FRANCES MOYES First Line: O apathetic, sleeping souls, awake! Last Line: Shall reach the destiny himself has wrought. | |||
O apathetic, sleeping souls, awake! Arise! Behold the beacon light ahead! Cast off the power of all the mighty dead; Outgrown beliefs reject for progress' sake. Not mental swamps, but hills of light your stake! Flee quicksands of dark superstition's dread. Though pain and sorrow's stepping-stones you tread, The wide horizons ever undertake. There from the spirit's broader, clearer view Thought merging with the Good in rising tide, Shall cast its bonds; become triumphant, new! Then man a god in new-found freedom's stride, Reborn to power of supernal thought, Shall reach the destiny himself has wrought. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TO A VIOLENT LEAF (FROM THE GRAVE OF KEATS) by FRANCES MOYES MY LIGHT WITH YOURS by EDGAR LEE MASTERS TO HIS WIFE ON THE 16TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER WEDDING DAY, WITH A RING by SAMUEL BISHOP THE JOYS OF THE ROAD by BLISS CARMAN SWEET MEETING OF DESIRES by COVENTRY KERSEY DIGHTON PATMORE TO THE UNIMPLORED BELOVED by EDWARD SHANKS |
