HAPPY DREAMS BE THINE!, by GEORGE MURRAY (19TH CENTURY) First Line: Ladye, from thy slumbers wake Last Line: And happy dreams be thine! Subject(s): Love; War | ||||||||
LADYE, from thy slumbers wake, One fond look bestow on me; Ere the coming day shall break, On the battle-field I'll be! Yet, can I disturb thy rest -- Thou, who never may'st be mine? -- Sleep, then, darling, and may blest And happy dreams be thine -- Sweet and holy thoughts, my love, Calmer far than mine; Peaceful visions from above, And happy dreams be thine! Should I, on the field of strife Fall amid my country's foes, When the ebbing pulse of life From my quivering bosom flows -- Then, my latest prayer shall be, Ere my soul this earth resign, May each day bring peace to thee, And happy dreams be thine -- Sweet and holy thoughts, my love, Calmer far than mine; Peaceful visions from above, And happy dreams be thine! But, should I return once more Crowned with glory's noble wreath, When the trumpet's blast is o'er, And their swords the victors sheathe -- Ladye, at thy feet I'll lay All the laurels may be mine, Daily guard thee, ever pray That happy dreams be thine -- Sweet and holy thoughts, my love, Calmer far than mine; Peaceful visions from above, And happy dreams be thine! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...I AM YOUR WAITER TONIGHT AND MY NAME IS DIMITRI by ROBERT HASS MITRAILLIATRICE by ERNEST HEMINGWAY RIPARTO D'ASSALTO by ERNEST HEMINGWAY WAR VOYEURS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL THE SURVIVOR AMONG GRAVES by RANDALL JARRELL SO MANY BLOOD-LAKES by ROBINSON JEFFERS HUNTING CHORUS by GEORGE MURRAY (19TH CENTURY) |
