TO A DYING ROSE, by SARAH ORSHANSKY First Line: Fading petal of a dying rose! Last Line: The wind bloweth past . . . A sigh! . . . Good-bye. Subject(s): Flowers; Mortality; Roses | ||||||||
Fading petal of a dying rose! From whence cometh the beauty of thy sorrowful pose? With thee are the touches that good mother chose To make us feel softly life's heaviest blows. Oh, thou drooping, fading, dying, rosebeam, Arise and alight with thy sweet-smelling gleam. Life for you, rose, was one short, sweet, sweet dream. Through thy breath and my breathing thou didst win esteem! Good-bye, my rose, good-bye! Though thou meetest thy death on the ground, thou art high. Thou art high, while thy lowly death is nigh. The wind bloweth past . . . a sigh! . . . Good-bye. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WHISPER OF THE ROSE by EDMUND JOHN ARMSTRONG THE WISDOM OF THE ROSE by ELSA BARKER LOVE PLANTED A ROSE by KATHARINE LEE BATES ROSES; A VILANELLE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE PAINTER ON SILK by AMY LOWELL VARIATIONS: 17 by CONRAD AIKEN WORDS IN A CERTAIN APPROPRIATE MODE by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE LITTLE VAGABOND, FR.
