MOTIF, by CORDELIA PEARSON First Line: Have you heard the song of the violin Last Line: Have you heard the song of the violin? Subject(s): Violins | ||||||||
Have you heard the song of the violin, As it cries from the depths of its soul! -- Of love and life, of hate and scorn, Of laughter and weeping -- the former forced, The last coming naturally, it would seem -- From the mind, the heart, and the soul of those The music they hear, but cannot catch In its flight through thought; it flees away Ere the brain can record, the hand take pen To write down the beauty heard but once. The joys of life fly, the sorrows remain; The smiles recede, the tears return With lonely days and bitter nights. Yet -- forgetfulness comes ere madness, -- perhaps.
