DISCOURAGEMENT, by JACQUES PELETIER Poet's Biography First Line: Weary I grow, but only more to stray Last Line: Ah, love! Delay no more to work your will. Alternate Author Name(s): Peletier Du Mans, Jacques | ||||||||
WEARY I grow, but only more to stray; I give all I possess, the more to owe; My eyes I open, greater grief to know. Good I confer, but only taunts repay; And help I seek, which hastens to betray. Long time I wait, and yet no richer grow. Long time I live, to death the constant prey. My soul expands, its longing to refuse: A hundred ends I see, yet nothing chuse; One thing I aim at, all save that to hit; All things I clasp, to miss my object still: Fleeing from harm, yet never 'scaping it. Ah, Love! delay no more to work your will. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AFTER TU FU (THEY SAY YOU'RE STAYING IN A MOUNTAIN TEMPLE) by MARVIN BELL BETRAYAL by HESTER H.
