ALTAR LAMP, by
First Line: Catteron's branch came down through the shadows
Last Line: Treading, treading the waters.

Catteron's Branch came down through the shadows,
Slipping craftily under the great logs,
Foaming around the dark boulders,
Shut from the silence by tall trees.
Then, from the vibrant dimness,
Shone a handful of light ...
One white rhododendron ...
Luminous-pale as any altar lamp.
And, in the flower-lit glade,
Time and I, for a long moment,
Heard the feet of Eternity
Treading, treading the waters.
