OCTOBER, by HENRI DEWITT SAYLOR First Line: There's a murmur in the meadow Last Line: For the pageantry of fall. Subject(s): Beauty; Fields; Gardens & Gardening; October; Pastures; Meadows; Leas | ||||||||
There's a murmur in the meadow, There's a cheeping on the hill, There's a crimson-colored dogwood Launching shallops on the rill; There's a russet oak in the lane And a red one by the mill, O there's orange in the valley And there's paisley on the hill. There's beauty still in the garden -- But there's sadness in the call That these gypsy colors offer For the pageantry of Fall. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HUNTING PHEASANTS IN A CORNFIELD by ROBERT BLY THREE KINDS OF PLEASURES by ROBERT BLY QUESTION IN A FIELD by LOUISE BOGAN THE LAST MOWING by ROBERT FROST FIELD AND FOREST by RANDALL JARRELL AN EXPLANATION by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON IN FIELDS OF SUMMER by GALWAY KINNELL |
