THE HEAVENS AT NIGHT, by CHRISTIAN ERNST SCHNEIDER First Line: I love to lie at eventime Last Line: Of god's celestial truth. Subject(s): Admiration; Night; Wandering & Wanderers; Youth; Bedtime | ||||||||
I love to lie at eventime And gaze up toward the sky; To search for dippers and the like As lazy clouds roll by. I love the azure dome above, Bestudded with great stars So clear, so bright, so perfect-like So free of aught that jars. No doubt these stars will always shine So long as earth needs light; And lads like me will lie and gaze At the alluring sight. Yes, even now, I feel quite sure, On near or distant hill, Are lying favored lads like me Enjoying priceless thrill. I doubt if there shall ever be, So long as there be sky, One moment but this sight shall please Some beauty-loving eye. And I shall nevermore forget These moments of my youth When I enjoyed this precious bit Of God's celestial truth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN VISION by CHRISTIAN ERNST SCHNEIDER TO A LOUSE, ON SEEING ONE ON A LADY'S BONNET AT CHURCH by ROBERT BURNS |
