So long, O Lord, I've waited for this day, Within my heart a trembling ecstasy Born of a fervent hope. I did not see With these dim eyes, the Star, whose wondrous ray Led kings across the land to where Christ lay. Nor was the Shepherds' Christmas joy for me. ... But I have held Him in His infancy, And now I go rejoicing on my way. O Lord, I thank Thee for Thy love divine: For Thou didst grant me, at the close of life A chance to hold the Savior of us all, And prove there is no love as deep as Thine. Now, old and weary with my earthly strife, I'm waiting, Lord, to hear Thy last clear call! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY A PURPLE HEART BADGE by EMMA THOMAS SCOVILLE |
