SETTING SUN, by WILLA CALVERT SMITH First Line: I saw you at your glory's height Last Line: Surrendered to the somber night. Subject(s): Sun | ||||||||
I saw you at your glory's height: I watched you flaunt your colors bright With purple, rose, a crimson fold, And bits of emerald set in gold. I watched your glory slowly fade: Your colors seemed a sad brigade As red and gold slipped softly away And violet turned to evening gray. I saw the way you took defeat -- Like a stalwart soldier in defeat -- As every color, robbed of might, Surrendered to the somber night. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN AGAINST EXCESS OF SEA OR SUN OR REASON by WILLIAM MEREDITH WHY I WAKE EARLY by MARY OLIVER CONTRA MORTEM: THE SUN by HAYDEN CARRUTH SERPENT SUN EYE BEWITCHING MY EYE by AIME CESAIRE CONTENTMENT by WILLA CALVERT SMITH |
