THE CHASM, by WILLA CALVERT SMITH First Line: There are ahead of every man Last Line: Of glory, wealth, and fame. Subject(s): Sacrifices | ||||||||
There are ahead of every man Glittering, great prizes, With chasms, though, that he must span, Of different shapes and sizes. Before each goal a chasm lies; The chasm is the cost That man must pay to win the prize. A goal is better lost Than gained, if gained at sacrifice Of honor and good name. Scan well the chasm, note the price Of glory, wealth, and fame. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CHILD TAKEN FROM THE MOTHER by MINNIE BRUCE PRATT WHAT WAS LEFT OVER; FOR SUJATA BHATT by ELEANOR WILNER COLORADO MORTON'S RIDE by LEONARD BACON (1887-1954) A LITTLE BOY LOST, FR.
