On an old trail;
Wind whip, cloud burst,
Flail of hail,

Lark song, warm rain
Soft from the south,
New grass, sleek hides,
Song in the mouth,

Sapphire skies,
Looped lassoes,
Sloughs running water,
Maverick woes;

"Cowboy, cowboy -- "
Wind refrain.
Rain and root
Seek muscle and brain.
