URGE, by GEORGE B. STAFF First Line: Some it drives to the arctic Last Line: And die with the thing in their hearts! | ||||||||
Some it drives to the arctic To mush down the frozen trail, Where weird lights play over tundras gray And even the strongest fail. Some it sends to the tropics To battle the jungle dim; Where beasts of prey and fevers slay And death is a specter grim. But some are chained to stools and desks, Playing dull, humdrum parts. They slave and sweat and fume and fret, And die with the thing in their hearts! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FINIS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON INFERENTIAL by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON THE METROPOLITAN TOWER by SARA TEASDALE THE RUBAIYAT, 1879 EDITION: 101 by OMAR KHAYYAM A BALLAD OF LIFE by ALGERNON CHARLES SWINBURNE OUR SOLDIERS' SANTIAGO SONG by DAVID GRAHAM ADEE LOVE'S BLINDNESS by ALFRED AUSTIN |
