TO MY JACOBUS STAINER, by EDITH FLINT VON WALD First Line: Oh silent violin Last Line: As fades the beauty of an autumn day. Subject(s): Violins | ||||||||
Oh silent Violin, Whose strings once sounded the immortal music Of souls now gone, Give to mine ears again the magic Of thy sobbing songs of sweetness, And blend thy harmonies with the strains No mortal hand hath wrought Or ear received -- but whose fair chimes Awake an echo of dear sadness As breaks the heart! Oh give again, as once thou gavest, Love's fairest songs of longing, And let a hand that loves thee Caress thy strings -- or sting them into life That throbbing prays, and praying fades away, As fades the beauty of an autumn day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NEAR MISS HAIKU by ANSELM HOLLO OUT-OF-THE-BODY TRAVEL by STANLEY PLUMLY HE'D BE NOTHING BUT HIS VIOLIN by MARY KYLE DALLAS THE OLD VIOLIN by MAURICE FRANCIS EGAN THE VIOLINIST by MARGARET STEELE ANDERSON THE VIOLIN'S ENCHANTRESS by WILLIAM ROSE BENET A VIOLINIST by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON |
