THEIR LAST STAND, by DONA WAYLAND First Line: Peering tensely with naked curiosity Last Line: Hunted -- they take their last stand. Subject(s): Mustangs | ||||||||
Peering tensely with naked curiosity They wander high among the hills, Mustangs, the last of a race rapidly vanishing ... Clouds blown through the great crossways In endless procession above their heads. Plunderers -- doomed to extinction. Majestic, free they speed over the horizon, Up the dried lava streams, Shadows that travel far Among a duel of opposing forces. Upon the mountain top, Watching the guarded places, Listening to whispers of the forest, Hunted -- they take their last stand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CRATER OF THE MOON (IN IDAHO) by DONA WAYLAND RED SHADOWS, SELECTION by DONA WAYLAND A BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 8 by THOMAS CAMPION THE ORACLES by ALFRED EDWARD HOUSMAN EPIGRAM ON QUEEN CAROLINE'S DEATHBED by ALEXANDER POPE IN MEMORIAM A.H.H.: 11 by ALFRED TENNYSON THE ARTILLERYMAN'S VISION by WALT WHITMAN ODE; SUNG BY THE CHILDREN OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS by W.
