THE LORD IS A SHIELD', by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS Poet's Biography First Line: Is god the lord to be your shield? Last Line: Nor mightiest foe undo you Subject(s): God | ||||||||
Is God the Lord to be your shield? Then keep Him aye before you, And follow Him to any field. His banner ever o'er you. No shield is He to those who fall Fainthearted far behind Him; But hold Him firmly over all, And to their bosom bind Him. Nor shield is He to those who tread Presumptuously before Him, By proud and idle fancy led All heedless to ignore Him. Bat follow where He leads the way And bind Him closely to you; And God will be your shield for aye. Nor mightiest foe undo you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUNTAIN IS STRIPPED by DAVID IGNATOW AS CLOSE AS BREATHING by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 1 by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 13 by MARK JARMAN BIRTH-DUES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE SILENT SHEPHERDS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS A BATTLE SONG (WRITTEN IN THE WORLD WAR) by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS |
