THREE MEASURES, by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS Poet's Biography First Line: Of all things far, I love the best Last Line: That mind cannot encompass thee! Subject(s): Faith; Belief; Creed | ||||||||
Of all things far, I love the best The distance from the east to west; For by that space, and all within, God's mercy parts me from my sin. And best I love, of all things high, The space between the earth and sky; For by that height beyond all ken God's love exceeds the love of men. I love, of deep things undefiled, A father's pity for his child; For by that depth so far, so clear, God pities all that faint and fear. O Father, Father, endless kind, I thank Thee for my human mind, But chief of all my praise shall be That mind cannot encompass Thee! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 4 by MARK JARMAN QUIA ABSURDUM by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET TO FORTUNE by LUCY AIKEN JONATHAN EDWARDS IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS by ROBERT LOWELL RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION by MINA LOY A BATTLE SONG (WRITTEN IN THE WORLD WAR) by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS |
