FOR IDLE DREAMERS, by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS Poet's Biography First Line: May god forgive the dreamers of the earth! Last Line: Will serve as coin for their necessities. Alternate Author Name(s): Williams, B. Y. | ||||||||
May God forgive the dreamers of the earth! He made them -- and perhaps can understand What bias gives the vision seeming worth And what inertia stays the futile hand. While others build great bridges and high towers And launch heroic ships, and sow and reap, Strange lethargy enwraps the dreamers' powers; The gainless years yield but a little heap Of crumpled fantasies for them. May God Forgive and bring these aliens to a place Where rainbows form the bridges to be trod Across all yawning chasms; where a trace Of silver moonlight falling through the trees Will serve as coin for their necessities. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CHIMNEY SWALLOW by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS FOR ONE WHO WAS LOVELY by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS FORGOTTEN by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS PARTICIPATION by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS SEPTEMBER by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS SUMMER DAY AT THE DESERTED HOUSE by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS THE CHINA TEA SET by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS THE FRIEND WHO JUST STANDS BY by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS WASHINGTON by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS DON JUAN: DEDICATION [OR, INVOCATION] by GEORGE GORDON BYRON AN ECHO FROM WILLOW-WOOD by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI THE STORY OF ZERBIN AND ISABELLA, FR.
