DAWN, by FANNIE BARRIER WILLIAMS Poet's Biography First Line: A sigh sweeps the tall lush grasses Last Line: Fulfilling the dawn. Subject(s): Dawn; Day; Night; Sunrise; Bedtime | ||||||||
A sigh sweeps the tall lush grasses; The night wind calls as it passes; No sound of the bee nor cricket; Faint bird-notes trill in the thicket. And see! On the gray cloud's lining The day in Night's arms reclining. Day dawn, gay dawn Creeping up across the lawn, Lighting up my window pane, Rousing me from sleep, Chasing shapes of night away, Presaging the blaze of day, Greets me out in field and lane Where soft breezes sweep. The hush of the night has been broken; The fiat for light again spoken; And out from soft nebulous veiling My day in full glory comes trailing; Fulfilling the dawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN A DAKOTA IDYL by FANNIE BARRIER WILLIAMS |
