LOST VALLEY, by
First Line: I found it on a morning when the wings
Last Line: Share some of it with you.
Subject(s): Springs (water)

I found it on a morning when the wings
Of song birds rose with music to the sun --
A small green valley gemmed with mountain springs
And filled with sounds of brooks that through it run
Its trees looked as if stars had nested there
With birds whose notes came forth in starry song,
And fragrance of wild flowers filled the air,
And morning lingered long.

There, from leaf shadows, came a dappled fawn
To drink at that clear spring where I had stood;
A thrush shook dew upon me, and was gone
On rapture drifting through a singing wood.
Trout arched their sudden rainbows in the pools
And circles spread their silver at my feet --
Each time I think of it some magic cools
My throat, the air grows sweet.

I have not found the way to it again
But something of that valley still I keep --
I hear its music as I heard it then,
Its fragrance sometimes lingers in my sleep.
It still is there -- I have but lost the way
And not the valley that I wandered through . . .
While I can feel it near -- and while I may
Share some of it with you.
