THE GRASS, by EMMA LEE GLENN First Line: So patiently throughout the day and night Last Line: It covers all the mound with emerald dress. Subject(s): Grass | ||||||||
So patiently throughout the day and night, So unobstrusive to our step and sight, With little clawlike hands, tenacious feet, It creeps along the edges of the street. And where the feet of little children play The grass keeps slowly growing day by day, Surrounding everywhere man's fixed abode; It sometimes tries to cross the dusty road. And when it comes to some fresh mound, alas -- It gently murmurs, "It is I, the grass," And soon with noiseless feet and soft caress, It covers all the mound with emerald dress. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A PORTRAIT OF MY ROOF by JAMES GALVIN HIGH PLAINS RAG by JAMES GALVIN I FIX MY EYES ON A BLADE OF GRASS by DAVID IGNATOW METAPHOR OF GRASS IN CALIFORNIA by CHARLES MARTIN THE LAST DAY OF AUGUST by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CUT THE GRASS by ARCHIE RANDOLPH AMMONS THE VOICE OF THE GRASS by SARAH ROBERTS BOYLE THE DAMASCUS ROAD by EMMA LEE GLENN |
