With girlish dress And fond caress She sat upon her father's knee, And whispered oft In accent soft, "You're the only man in the world for me." Two twelvemonths passed He hastened fast To meet his little girl once more, But breathed a sigh And wiped his eye To find a woman at the door. But on his knee As tenderly As e'er of old she made her plea, And whispered sweet, "Just youandPete Are the only men in the world for me." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARGUING BARTUSIAK by ALBERT GOLDBARTH THE VISIONARY by EMILY JANE BRONTE THE PROTESTATION by THOMAS CAREW A VALEDICTION: OF MY NAME IN THE WINDOW by JOHN DONNE ELEGY: 11.
