LOOSE LUNATICS, by WILLIAM A. PHELON First Line: The baseball fan gets up and loudly yowls-- Last Line: He's dippy! Subject(s): Adventure And Adventurers; Baseball; Football; Horse Racing; Sports | ||||||||
THE baseball fan gets up and loudly yowls He tears the well-known welkin with his howls He shrieks as every athlete goes to bat, He makes weird tatters of his brand new hat His general conduct is a frightful sin, And yet the coppers do not take him in! He's crazy! The racetrack follower hangs across the rail, And squalls until the atmosphere turns pale. He makes a honking trumpet of his chin, While begging some blamed horse to come and win He makes that racetrack seem like hardboiled, And yet they do not chuck him in a cell! He's nutty! Behold the youngster at the football game He leaps and dances till his hoofs go lame! The warcries of the fighting Turks and Greeks Are simply nothing to his hideous shrieks After the game, he goes and paints the town, And no one locks him up to cool him down! He's dippy! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPORT STORY OF A WINNER by GLYN MAXWELL WOMAN SKATING by MARGARET ATWOOD FISHING IN WINTER by RALPH BURNS CAPPER KAPLINSKI AT THE NORTH SIDE CUE CLUB by HAYDEN CARRUTH JACKIE ROBINSON by LUCILLE CLIFTON FOR THE DEATH OF VINCE LOMBARDI by JAMES DICKEY THE DEATH OF THE RACE CAR DRIVER by NORMAN DUBIE A FOOL THERE WAS by WILLIAM A.
