TO THE READER, by
First Line: Reader, take heed, complain not of the sting
Last Line: So 'gainst thee shall all scourging satires end.
Subject(s): Whiting, Nathaniel (1615-1670)

READER take heed, complain not of the sting,
Lest others of thy galled sores do sing.
No faulty person, party, here is meant,
Only the vice o' th' age and place is shent.
He that expounds it of himself doth show
Some guilty fault or vice from him doth flow.
If touch'd to th' quick, conceal and them amend,
So 'gainst thee shall all scourging satires end.
