UPHELD BY HIS HAND, by GRACE B. RENFROW First Line: The way was rocky, rough, and steep Last Line: He held me by his hand. Subject(s): Jesus Christ | ||||||||
The way was rocky, rough, and steep; My feet were weary, sore; I stumbled oft and almost fell; How could I bear much more? 'Twas then I felt a great strong hand Close o'er my little one; New strength, new courage, came to me. Oh, this must be God's Son! A voice was speaking, "Fear thou not, For I am with thee still; I'll never leave thee, nor forsake; I'll help thee up the hill. Be not dismayed, for I'm thy God, The God of Canaan land. I'll strengthen thee with righteousness, Uphold thee by My hand." Rude thorns and thistles filled my path, The brambles thicker grew; How sharp they were, how deep their wound; Oh! Could I press on through? Again I felt that great kind hand Close tenderly on mine. Should I, with Him to smooth the way, E'er murmur, or repine? He grasped me with a firmer hold-- I felt His wounded palm! My heart nigh broke, but o'er my soul Came sweetest peace and calm. No matter now the rocky steeps, Or Life's gray desert sand, For I had Jesus by my side, He held me by His hand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
