THE PARK, by JOSEPHINE PRICE SIMRALL First Line: From petty round of homely work and care Last Line: The park lies, -- like god's answer to a prayer. Subject(s): Wellesley College | ||||||||
FROM Petty round of homely work and care, The quick, insistent call -- the pressing need, The pause, -- the turn, -- the hurryings here and there, The hungry love, that love alone can feed, -- Down to the waiting city, with its din, Its pulsing throb of eager, human life, Its want and staring nakedness and sin, Its throb of big events, its frantic strife, -- I pass day after day. But in between All still and green, with sky blue showing through And misty blossoming, and silver sheen, Of sun-flung shadows drenched with morning dew, And bird songs thrilling through the rapturous air, The Park lies, -- like God's answer to a prayer. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINES WRITTEN TO A TRANSLATOR OF GREEK POETRY by MARGARET STEELE ANDERSON THE LESSER BEAUTY by MARGARET STEELE ANDERSON WORK by MARGARET STEELE ANDERSON IN MEMORY: MISS JEWETT by GRACE ALLERTON ANDREWS HERE ENTER NOT by KATHARINE CANBY BALDERSTON I CLEANED MY HOUSE TODAY by KATHARINE CANBY BALDERSTON MY GARDEN by KATHARINE CANBY BALDERSTON |
