CANYON OF THE YELLOWSTONE, by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS Poet's Biography First Line: This I shall remember Last Line: Hanging from the skies. Alternate Author Name(s): Williams, B. Y. Subject(s): Yellowstone National Park | ||||||||
This I shall remember Beyond all time and space -- You and I together In this awesome place; The bright day near its ending, The sun's descending glow Lighting up the splendor Of the chasm far below; Turbulent and silver Runs the furious stream Quieted by distance To the cadence of a dream; Like an arras woven For the gods' delight Hang the walls of yellow, Ember red and yellow, green and topaz yellow -- All fading into night. This I shall remember Far beyond life's close, When I have forgotten The perfection of the rose; I shall drink this moment Like a golden wine When life's pungent vintage Is no longer mine. You and I -- no other Memory I crave For the heart to feed on In the quiet grave; This enough of vision For my fast-sealed eyes -- Walls of tawny yellow, Crimson, green and yellow, tapestries of yellow Hanging from the skies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE SLEEPING GIANT by WILLIAM STEWARD GORDON YELLOWSTONE PARK-THE SECOND PARADISE by WILLIAM STEWARD GORDON THE BURNING OF YELLOWSTONE by MONA VAN DUYN A LONG WAY OUTSIDE YELLOWSTONE by THOMAS MCGRATH TREES IN YELLOWSTONE FOREST by FLORENCE RILEY RADCLIFFE CHIMNEY SWALLOW by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS FOR IDLE DREAMERS by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS FOR ONE WHO WAS LOVELY by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS FORGOTTEN by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS PARTICIPATION by BERTYE YOUNG WILLIAMS |
