OH HEART BE GLAD, by LILLIE REED ZORTMAN First Line: Oh heart, be glad, be strong as one who knows Last Line: Oh heart be glad! Subject(s): Beauty; Evening; Hearts; June; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
Oh heart, be glad, be strong as one who knows That beauty will outlive each lovely June, And fragile petals never fall too soon. When sunset's red and amber fade, then shows The silver sheen of moonlight on each rose. Throughout each droning sunny afternoon The grain grows ripe before the harvest moon. Through changing seasons beauty never goes -- Oh heart, be glad! Oh heart, be glad, for time can never mar The beauty that is caught in sudden flight And held a captive through the darkest night; A beauty bringing splendor from afar, And coming swiftly like a falling star -- Oh heart be glad! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON |
