So heavy and so fraught with pain, But I must bravely trudge along The dusty way ... nor dare arraign My cross. I have no voice to lift in song; When sorrow's recompense I feign The muffled notes of grief remain. And yet He prayed for strength to drain The bitter dregs and bear the thong.
